What do you love about NWLD and/or your team?

I love the knowledge that we all constantly share with one another. We ask each other a lot of questions, which allows all of us to learn as we work.

How long have you been in the landscaping industry?

I have been involved in the horticulture industry in some aspect for over 10 years.

What degrees, certifications, or licenses do you have that are relevant to your role?

I completed a general biology degree, and was lucky to have some horticulture-based classes while attending university.

What is your favorite material to work with?

I enjoy working with the plants most of all, trees and vining plants especially.

What inspires your work?

My work is driven by a curiosity for nature, and how we can incorporate that into urban spaces.

What do you love about landscape design, build, and/or maintain?

I really enjoy being around plants and plant people. This industry is unique and truly lush with life. I am originally from a small town filled to the limit with plants, trees, etc, so any chance to add that feeling to the cityspace, feels fulfilling to me.

What do you love about NWLD and/or your team?

I love the willingness of our team to collaborate and problem solve. Our team has a wide array of expertise and perspective that really allows us all to learn and evolve as a team.

How long have you been in the landscaping industry?

This will be my 4th year!

What degrees, certifications, or licenses do you have that are relevant to your role?

No degrees. I am always trying to find ways to educate myself about this industry and best practices. There’s always room for growth!

What is your favorite material to work with?

I love planting and any chance that I get to be in the field, I am happy!

What inspires your work?

I love the joy that plants, gardens, and green space bring to people, which is why this industry is so special. Landscaping allows us to be caregivers & teachers, which helps people grow too. Providing access to green space, gardens, & plants is so important and I am so happy to be a part of it all.

What do you love about landscape design, build, and/or maintain?

I love the artistry in designing with plants. Creating a living, breathing, functioning community is a deeply moving thing. Nature is artfully beautiful without skill or talent, and to create with a medium so raw and inspiring makes me feel connected to my life in ways I can’t find with people or possessions.

What do you love about NWLD and/or your team?

I love that the team is supportive, creative, and excited to learn.

How long have you been in the landscaping industry?

I received my  B.S. in Agriculture with an emphasis on Horticulture and Agronomy from Murray State University in 2016. I received my M.S. in Plant and Soil Science from University of Kentucky in 2018.

What is your favorite material to work with?

My favorite materials to work with are plants that serve a functional purpose in addition to an ornamental purpose. Plants that serve as host plants for native insects, provide resources for animals, or help improve our native soils and biodiversity are incredibly important to building sustainable ecosystems.

What inspires your work?

My work is inspired by a feeling. Nature can create perfectly on its own, but as a human I have an innate desire to control and dictate what happens in my own environment. This desire to interfere can be seen as a flaw in natural communities, but recognizing it and finding the balance between intervention and natural chaos is where I find feeling. It’s a push-pull feeling that I’m always questioning and never comfortable with, but also one that I’m always acknowledging and using to explore my own self.
